NM Reports is a project of Citizen Media Group, a New Mexico-based nonprofit supporting New Mexico-based journalists and newsrooms.
We partner with local newsrooms to bundle small reader donations, then grant those donations back to the newspaper to help cover the salary of reporters covering local government and civic engagement.
Why does this matter?
Coverage of local village councils and county commissions is some of the most time-consuming reporting newspapers do. It can take hours to review public agendas and reports and track down decision makers — before sitting through hours of public meetings.
We help local newsrooms cover the cost of local government coverage so they can pay professional journalists a living wage to cover topics critical to civic engagement.
How will the Corrales Comment use my donation?
Here’s what the publisher says about how they will use reader-funded grants from NM Reports:
NM Report grants were critical to covering Corrales’ contentious local elections in 2025. The election was a proxy for a long-running debate over growth in the historic rural village. We used reader-funded grants to create our first full-time, salaried reporter position in 2024. In 2026, we’re looking to hire 2 community contributors part-time to help us cover other issues in the village that our single reporter doesn’t have capacity to cover alone.
How can I help?
The Corrales Comment is looking to raise $12,000 before the end of 2025 to cover local annual local government reporting costs. If the Comment exceeds that goal, they can hire local contributors to cover new content.
100% of reader donations from Comment readers are bundled and granted to the Corrales Comment for local coverage. We cover fees and costs through other grants. Deductions to Citizen Media Group are tax deductible as contributions to a 501(c)3 organization.
